1973 Lotus Europa Special (5-Speed)
This 1973 Europa is a very original, genuine, 5-Speed Europa Special fitted with a 1558cc Big Valve Lotus Twin-cam, twin Stromberg carbs and of course the Renault ‘365’ 5-speed gearbox.
The car has not been driven for maybe 10-years or so, but has been started and run every now and then on a regular basis. The Twin-cam fires up easily, and idles nicely with good strong oil pressure on the gauge. It doesn’t smoke and runs and drives pretty good for a car that need some love and attention. The brakes work, the clutch is good and you can find all 5 gears in the usual Europa vague way! Almost all the electrics work OK and the interior is very original with the original steering wheel. The original seats are in excellent condition, as are the door trims. The body is straight and good and shows no signs of accident damage, but the paint is pretty poor and it really need a full paint job. There is an original luggage tray. The wheels are all original, good condition and dent free, and there is even an original spare Brand Lotus rim to match the other four!
The car has a clean Colorado title and registration and has just over 25,000 miles on the odometer…. Not sure if this is genuine, it could be! This car is currently in the Denver Metro Area but could be shipped anywhere within the US, or in fact Europe!
This very original car is the perfect case for a full restoration that would give you a prize example of a rare and most desirable Europa. We think it was originally black so could even have been one of the Black & Gold ‘JPS’ limited edition. We need to get an ID check done by Andy Graham at Lotus in the UK to see if this is the case and will update this page if we hear any news.
